Jury Commission

A rotating commission of freelance musicians decides on the awarding of the contributions. The commission members are usually appointed for 2 years and are mostly former scholarship holders.

Each member has extensive experience gained through many years of artistic work. This personal expertise shall shape the commission’s work.

2024

NEW: Matthias Pichler (42), is a freelance double bass player and lives with his family in Berlin. He works at the interface between jazz, improvised music, folklore, songwriting, etc… As a sideman and co-leader he travels all over the world. His latest project is a double bass solo program that will be premiered at the Klangspuren Festival in Tyrol in September 2024.

NEW: Daniela Weinmann (40), is a songwriter and has released three studio albums and three EPs under the pseudonym “Odd Beholder”. She is signed to the Berlin label Sinnbus and tours Europe. She is a co-founder of Music Declares Emergency Switzerland and uses her work there to sensitize musicians to ecological sustainability.

Joy Frempong (44) singer and composer between the worlds of electro, jazz, experimental music, Afrobeats and pop. She has been touring internationally with the duo OY for many years. She also composes for radio plays and animated films. Joy was born in Ghana in 1978, came to Switzerland in 1986 and has lived in Berlin for 15 years. Recently she joined the Decolonoize collective, which works for more visibility of the BIPoC community in Berlin’s alternative music scene.

Martina Berther (38) is a freelance bassist and composer as well as curator of the Stroom Series in Chur. Her sound spectrum ranges from experimental music to pop. She is internationally active as a solo artist, with her bands as well as a sidewoman and composes music for theater, films and installations. Today she lives and works in Zurich.

Victor Moser (38) lives with his family in Basel and works as a composer, producer and sound designer for film as well as theater. As a musician and performer, he specializes in interdisciplinary projects and formats. In different constellations he develops music theater pieces and interactive body performances. He is a board member of IG Musik Basel, which launched the “Initiative für mehr Musikvielfalt” in 2022.
